    Occupation

    Registered Holistic Nutritionist

    The Story

Raina Lutz grew up in Osoyoos B.C. – writing and making music in the sunshine – and after high school headed to the West Coast and attended BCIT for Broadcasting Journalism. Realizing talk show life wasn't for her, she then combined what were at the time "side project interests" in nutrition, food and agriculture and ventured over to the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where she obtained a diploma in Holistic Nutrition. A great year of her life - during school - she came out the other end with numerous opportunities awaiting. Working for a film crew and in a yoga studio, dreaming, thinking about life and finding love among them. Currently she is working on her writing, developing fermentation projects in her bubbling kitchen and blogging about it all, (http://www.okanagan-food.blogspot.com) while completing an apprenticeship program for nutrition with her mentor Lisa Kilgour. She can also be found in the office and studio of Get Bent Arts and Recreation (Get Bent Arts and Recreation) as office manager and on-site nutritionist as well as studying to be a Get Bent Iyengar-style yoga instructor.

    The Services

Out of her passion for food and nutrition as well as her education, Raina has developed a variety of programs to help people become health conscious and learn to feed their body and souls! Offerings include:

    One-on-One Nutritional Consultations

These are educational sessions to learn about the client, giving her a better perspective on recommendations to make. Be prepared to talk about yourself, and food! One on one consultations can be done through two locations: Get Bent Arts and Recreation in Penticton and at Breathe Studio in Osoyoos.

    Meal Plans

Some people are more visual. Need a concrete chart of what you're breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks should look like? Includes chart and recipes for 7 days. Tailored to your needs and specific requirements.

    Long Distance Assessment

Starts with a complete online assessment, recommendations are then prepared suitable to your constitution and any conditions present. Raina does not diagnose or cure, but addresses your symptoms and provides dietary and lifestyle changes to bring your body back into harmony. This route is exceptional if you want time to mill over everything, as your recommendations will happily sit in your inbox and wait for you. No need to make time for a meeting or have to schedule anything! Simply fill out the online forms on the website and leave the rest to her.

    Weight Management Program

In this program you will learn about the 3 key points to shedding excess weight off your body and the science behind it. You'll get emailed daily tips on increasing energy, conscious eating and meal ideas. You can start this program on the first of any month. Raina is a testament to the power of whole foods and their effect on a healthy body - during and after her time in school she dropped over 40 pounds. She truly believes in the idea that if you know what to give your body and give it everything it needs it will shape and mold itself to where it knows it needs to be. She offers this program as an extension of her wish to share this knowledge with others and to empower them to eat right and get fit.

Type II Diabetes Pilot Study with Holistic Nutrition

As per the next part of CAHN-Pro's apprenticeship program, I am working with a type II diabetic client with issues that are impeding them from making successful changes to their diet and lifestyle. It's a long-term project. My progress with the client will be tracked and entered into research for the study until a sufficient number of Diabetics have participated in the project to yield usable data.

Great Information and Tips on Okanagan-Food Blog

Recipes, concrete suggestions and inspirational thinking about food to get you back in the kitchen. Fermentation blog posts to get people back to thinking in traditional ways and traditional food, as well as recipes for making science-art in your kitchen to create edible biochemical powerhouses in your cupboards! It's quirky - its the alter-ego "Moonchild's" online world and crazy cooking fun house.

    What People are Saying

"Raina, thank you for calling value to Bone Soup in my diet.  It is the remedy for my connective tissue and lubricates my joints beautifully. I am primarily a fresh foods consumer. I meal plan according to the seasons, food combine and love BoCo Butter as much as Bocolate and Kombucha.  The discovery I made with bone soup enhanced my lifestyle.  I felt the effect of those nutrients being attracted with spontaneous magnetic absorbtion right to where they needed to go." -C.B., Kaleden B.C.

"I would like to thank Raina for all of her advice in helping me make better decisions with my eating habits. She made it easy for me to understand what I needed and I am definitely enjoying the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. The best part of working with Raina was her genuine enthusiasm in answering my questions and concerns. Thanks very much." -M.L., Saskatchewan

    Education

Raina studied in Vancouver at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. She graduated in 2011 with a diploma in Holistic Nutrition and became enrolled with the Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals. She is a current member of and in good standing with CAHN-Pro (Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals) as well as the CSNN (Canadian School of Natural Nutrition) Alumni Association.

    What do Holistic Nutritionists do?

Holistic Nutritionists are different from conventional nutritionists because holistic health goes deep - looking at the person as a whole being who has unique needs and choices, not recommending fad diets nor following the cookie-cutter food guide. Seeing beings as a whole person that has to power to make deep transformation rather than separate parts that need 'fixing' or symptoms that need covering up is what differentatiates RHN's. Holistic Nutritionists follow time-honored food traditions. Believing that everyBody is so unique and deserves to be observed from all views - body, mind, spirit, lifestyle, physical activity, health history and everything else that makes "us" up.

However, similar to other nutritionists, Holistic Nutritionists consult people regarding food and their choices. They provide clear-cut recommendations for 3 parts of the self: Food, Lifestyle, Body-Mind-Spirit. Holistic Nutritionists are not healers - they give tools to inspire and empower you to heal yourself.

RHN's look deeper into issues and can help you find the root cause of your symptoms.

"Our food choices are about more than just getting full. Proper nutrition and digestion is at the base of health for everyone, and food brings us together - nourishing us physically, emotionally and energetically. Does your food truly nourish you?"
