I coach people with chronic pain and illness, providing hope for those coping with chronic pain and illness. Chronic diseases can be frustrating and depressing at times but I understand as I have been there. I have had chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia for countless years. It has been a long and often difficult road but I now have a greater appreciation for life despite (or as a result of) my chronic illness. I am chronically ill but over the years, have learned chronic pain management techniques that work for me. I do not see my chronic illness as controlling my life anymore. I am happily back to life and I believe that anyone suffering with chronic pain can get back to life. I may not always have the energy and ability to do certain things that I used to do but by re-framing my attitude I am not just coping with my chronic pain. I am now able to pursue my passion - helping those with chronic pain diseases. People who are chronically ill have varying symptoms that require individualized support and chronic pain management plans.
I have no age limitations when it comes to working with clients who are chronically ill. I also work with couples and families to facilitate understanding so the client in chronic pain can have support and appreciation by loved ones.
I have a Master's in Social Work and experience in working with diverse individuals and communities. After receiving my MSW, I worked in a large public high school as student advisor and more recently, as an itinerant k-12 school counselor for four villages in rural Alaska. Between these jobs, I worked in various nonprofit organizations as program director, assistant director of community relations for a Jewish Federation, and as executive director of a therapeutic horseback riding facility. I never felt the satisfaction that came from working with kids, especially the most challenging ones who seemed impossible to reach. Through patience and never giving up, I built trusting relationships with these students, and many are still in communication with me.
I met my now husband in Alaska and eventually he decided it was time to return to his home of Texas. We live in a small town where he teaches and I am completing my M.Ed. in school counseling while building my true passion as a life coach. The final project for my M.Ed., is creating an educator training, Embracing the Tough Ones, which is intended to provide strategies and tools for counselors to work with difficult students by gaining their trust and, through caring and understanding, build student resiliency.
When I moved to Texas, I had intended to promote this training after I graduate in May 2012. But I had an ‘aha’ moment one night. Being a life coach for people who suffer from chronic pain diseases is what I need and want to do. It has been my passion ever since. My past experiences, struggles, and eventual management of my chronic illness would not have been so difficult if there had been someone who could have coached me in the right direction.
I work compassionately with clients, listening to their frustrations and helping them to figure out how to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. I encourage my clients to look beyond their chronic pain to all facets of their life beyond their health. Our life is a web that includes work, family, personal development, health, and passions. My role as coach is help my clients develop positive thinking and attitudes that naturally facilitates their ability to achieve their dreams in all facets of their web and live with purpose and joyfully.
Believe me, if I was able to guide my way towards a wonderful life, I firmly believe anyone can!
