What style of Manual Lymphatic Drainage do you practice?

    The Vodder Technique

Why do you practice Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymph Drainage is a natural progression in my treatment of massage for cancer patients.  Cancer patients are often faced with Lymphedema due to the removal of lymph nodes during surgery or damage to the nodes from radiation.  Adding MLD to my practice allows me the knowledge to treat lymphedema as well as how to prevent it in a cancer paitent who has had nodes removed or damaged.

Describe a typical Manual Lymphatic Drainage session:

A typical MLD session is very similar to a regular massage session.  Soft music, dim lighting and massage table.  To be effective, MLD is applied to the bare skin using light pressure without the use of lotions, creams or oils. Sessions are generally one hour in length but can be adjusted longer or shorter depending on the need of the client.

How often do clients come for a Manual Lymphatic Drainage session?

The answer to this question is dependent on the need of the client.  I currently work with a breast cancer survivor with lymphedema in her left arm.  She has a pump at home that she uses daily and comes for MLD sessions regularly at sporadic intervals.  Most recently she came 3 days in a row for a one-hour session.  We measured her arm prior to session #1 and after session #3.  The size of her arm decreased by 1 1/2", the skin was much more pliable and the redness had diminished.

    Professional Training

Passion and dedication are reflected in my commitment to learning. I am currently pursuing a Certification in Oncology Massage and hold professional memberships with AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) and NCTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork).

Specialties:  The foundation for my bodywork sessions combine the most effective and enjoyable elements of multiple modalities. My massage techniques include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Manual Lymph Drainage and gentle-touch massage for the medically frail.

I believe in the power of touch and am blessed to have found my passion.   Allow me to put my passion in action for you.  I am dedicated to creating an environment that is clean, private, casual, and friendly.  I specialize in catering to your individual health needs, to ensure you get exactly what you want from each massage. Testimonial: Great Oncology Massage

    Aug 09, 2012
Client: Susan M    Conditions: Breast Cancer

I had never heard of an oncology massage, but after reading the intake form I felt Susan would understand what I was going through. And she did. I wasn't sure if massage was a good option during chemotherapy, uncertain that a therapist would be sensitive to what my body was going through. Susan is very knowledgeable and she gave me a wonderfully relaxing massage. My first visit was a gift, but I have returned several times!
