Nutraceuticals / Glyconutrients

These are a class of new nutritional supplements which go beyond the traditional supply of basic vitamins and minerals to provide at pharmaceutical quality levels a whole range of essential bio-active chemicals and trace elements which though present in a natural fresh organic diet are largely absent in the modern diet of packaged, processed and transported food Dubbed the sugars that heal, Glyconutrients are now the source of increasing research and much justisfied excitement following numerous first hand experiences of benefits in treating a whole spectrum of conditions including: Arthritis, ADHD, Allergies, Asthma, Autism, Back Pain, Blood Pressure and Hypertension, Cancer Cells, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Chronic Sinus, Depression, Diabetes, Emphysema, Gastritis, Headaches, Heartburn, High Cholesterol, Hip and Joint Pain, Hormonal Imbalances, Hot Flushes, Hyperthyroidism, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuropathy, PMS and Immuno-deficiencies. From the Greek word glyco meaning sweet, Glyconutrients are biochemicals which contain sugar molecules. Examples are Glycoproteins - sugar attached to a protein, Glycolipid - sugar attached to a fat and Glycoform for any sugar form. Until recently, sadly overlooked by science, Glyconutrients are now recognised as essential for health particularly at the fundamental cellular level. Virtually every cell in our body should be covered with minuscule hair-like glycoforms which play a crucial role in fighting disease, maintaining hormonal balance, and facilitating intercellular communication. There are 8 key glyconutrients and while mother nature provides all in a healthy diet of fresh organic food, only 2 remain readily available in our modern food sources, Glucose and Galactose. The remaining 6 Fucose, Mannose, Xylose, N-acetyl-neuramic acid, N-acetyl-glucosamine and N-acetyl-galactosamine are all largely absent. Glyconutrient supplements rectify this deficiency. Nutraceuticals contain the active ingedients in natural food sources which are known to provide demonstrable physiological health promoting, disease preventing or medicinal benefits. These are natural bioactive chemical compounds often refered to as phytonutrients manufactured and sold in dosage form.
