Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an energy healing modality based on the idea that energy pathways throughout the body can be blocked or limited and that these blockages or limitations can cause discomfort, pain and even illness. The art itself is done by placing the listening to the energy pulses in the wrists and then using a harmonizing sequence (or "flow") to unblock those pathways and restore energy. The flows are a series of hand placement combinations that stimulate circulation of energy along the pathways and the movements themselves redirect or unblock the flow of energy along those pathways. Jin Shin Jyutsu® actually means 'Art of the Creator through man of knowing and compassion' and is the art of releasing tensions which cause various symptoms in the body and spirit.
Jin Shin Jyutso® is an ancient, Japanese, hands-on, healing art in which an experienced practitioner employs body reading, pulse listening and other attending skills as means to determine areas of tension and disharmony in the body -- physical, mental/psychological, spiritual/emotional. The practitioner then performs a series of gentle Jin Shin Jyutsu holds, balancing the body’s energies in order to facilitate the receiver’s own profound healing capacities.
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is generally referred to as energy work and has roots common to acupuncture. Of the energy modalities such as Reiki, Acupressure and Shiatsu, Jin Shin Jyutsu is unique in that, by utilizing pulse listening, as in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the practitioner ascertains overloads or insufficiencies at the level of effect in the organ function energies (lung, large intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small intestine, bladder kidney, diaphragm, umbilicus, gall bladder and liver function energies), and at the level of cause on the pre-manifested level. Dozens of specific “flows” or series of Jin Shin Jyutsu® holds are employed to help the body to reestablish the revitalizing life force or chi and bring about harmony.
Reestablishing the revitalizing life force is the basic purpose in Jin Shin Jyutsu®. Though Jin Shin Jyutsu® is a life-long study, a beginner can effectively help someone else by learning basic techniques. Also, Jin Shin Jyutsu® can be taught and utilized as a self-help modality. Anyone can learn simple Jin Shin Jyutsu® steps to relieve his or her own headaches, back pain, stomach pain, anxiety, insomnia, vertigo, digestive issues, elimination issues, worry, etc.
Jin Shin Jyutsu® was created in its current form by Master Jiro Murai early in the 1900s in Japan. He then taught it to Mary Burmeister, who brought Jin Shin Jyutsu® from Japan to the US in the 1950s. The official Jin Shin Jyutsu® website can be found at www.jsjinc.org.
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is not the same modality as Jin Shin Do, although Jin Shin Do derives from Jin Shin Jyutsu® and the founder of Jin Shin Do is a trained Jin Shin Jyutsu® practitioner.
