Emotional Freedom Technique® (EFT®) is a psychotherapeutic alternative medicine tool based on a theory that negative emotions are caused by disturbances in the body's energy field and that tapping on the meridians while thinking of a negative emotion alters the body's energy field, restoring it to "balance."
Emotional Freedom Technique® was created by Gary Craig and grew out of his training in Thought Field Therapy®. The main difference is that Emotional Freedom Technique® employs one simplified and ubiquitous tapping procedure instead of applying different algorithms to treat different problems (Thought Field Therapy® is based on tapping energy points on the body in a specific sequences based on the condition that is being treated).
According to foundational EFT® theory, “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” When you focus your thoughts on an emotional issue while tapping on the acupoints, you calm your body’s energy meridian system.
Emotional Freedom Technique® (EFT®) is an emotional healing process that involves tapping with the fingertips on some of the same points where acupuncturists may use needles. Emotional Freedom Technique®is a kind of emotional acupuncture but instead of using needles you can tap on yourself with your own fingertips. The self-tapping on these “acupoints” stimulates the energy meridian system, and releases unwanted negative emotions as well as physical pain and discomfort.
Emotional Freedom Technique® can be done by a practitioner but it can also be learned as a self-help technique.
Training
Unlike some modalities, training is not offering by only one organization. Like Reiki or Yoga, training in Emotional Freedom Technique® is offered by many different organizations and groups.
In the United States, Emotional Freedom Technique® and EFT® are registered trademarks that are registered to the founder of this modality, Gary H Craig.
