Egoscue Method

The Egoscue Method™ recognizes that fundamental anatomical, physiological & biomechanical principles govern the musculoskeletal system. The goal of the Egoscue Method™ is to eliminate disparities that can occur when injuries or negative lifestyle conditions affect the way the system moves & to restore optimum function to the body.

Based on a patient’s self reported history & therapists observation a series of functional demand exercises are developed which are designed to address the muscular imbalances and dysfunction which are leading to the structural deviation. These are a series of personalized exercises designed to target the deeper muscles of the axial skeleton and pelvis, as well as the superficial muscles. Therapists do not administer ‘hands on therapy’, exercise instructions are demonstrated and given to the patient and the onus is then on the patient to comply with them. This markedly reduced the risk of developing a therapist/patient dependency.

The sequencing of exercises in a prescribed routine is critical and prepares the body for each successive exercise. Exercises are performed for 7 days, followed by a re-evaluation and re-design of the routine as the neuromuscular efficiency improves. Patients are seen once weekly for an average of 8 weeks.

This is viewed by many as a common sense approach to the human body. Individuals can see and feel physical changes, improving health and increasing confidence.
