Sydney Laurel Harris, BA, AmSat certified, RIE certified, came to the AlexanderTechnique as an actor and creative drama teacher. A founding Board member of the Alexander Training Institute of Los Angeles and faculty member, Sydney was also an assistant trainer at the Alexander Training Institute of San Francisco from 1977 to 1984. Amira Glaser is an AmSAT Certified Teacher of the AlexanderTechnique. She is a graduate of the American Center for the AlexanderTechnique where she completed over 1600 hours of training. Amira is also certified in the Art of Breathing, a post-grad program for AlexanderTechnique teachers. She believes it benefits her teaching and her students when she is continually engaged in the learning process herself. Amira teaches individual lessons and group classes in Manhattan and Park Slope. Gal Ben-Or was born in 1963. He is married and the father of three children. He graduated from the School for Teachers of the AlexanderTechnique directed by Shmuel Nelkin inJerusalem. He was certified as a teacher of the AlexanderTechnique in 1987. As a senior teacher of the AlexanderTechnique, he has developed a unique approach to teaching children, adolescents and parents, according to the principles of the AlexanderTechnique.
George Lister is a teacher of the F. M. AlexanderTechnique, certified since 1994 by the American Society for the AlexanderTechnique (AmSAT). In addition to his private practices in San Francisco and Redwood City, California, he is the director of training of the Northern California Center for the AlexanderTechnique, a training course for the Alexnader Technique certified by AmSAT. He is also a regular visiting teacher at the Constructive Teaching Centre, London.
As a classically trained actor, I have been exposed to many different techniques for mind and body awareness. At Juilliard, in addition to the intensive voice and speech training, I studied Mime, Tai Chi, Pilates and Stage Combat. But only the AlexanderTechnique was offered every year. It is used as the foundation for all voice, speech and movement study because of the physical and mental balance it creates within a person.
