Four years ago I was taking classes on manifestation from a channeled entity. I have always felt the importance of practicality in our 'spiritual' pursuits and was attempting to become a more conscious, responsible creator in my life. After a few sessions, I felt frustrated. The channeled entity used English but so much of what he said was open for interpretation that it seemed we couldn't communicate clearly. In exasperation, I proclaimed outloud; "I wish to meet a real, 3D person who can teach me manifestation!" Someone sitting nearby heard me and said; "I know someone, Machaelle Small Wright. It tells in her books how she works with Nature and manifests all the time." That started an intense study and practice of 'co-creative science' and changed my perspective radically. The next year, I was to share these ideas to a most unlikely group.
It was late Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Life Enrichment Expo in early 1996, and most of what was to happen had already unfolded, or so it seemed. I was walking across the exhibit area when I encountered someone I knew who then introduced me to someone she had just met there. Soon I found myself talking with a man named Paul Chang who said he was an architect from Jamaica and in Asheville for the annual Solar Energy conference. Paul came to our booth and after an interesting conversation, I invited him to our Wednesday evening meditation and salon. Since our gathering was in Waynesville, I assumed that was the last we would see of him.
To my surprise Paul came that next Wednesday and brought two women from the Solar Energy conference; Barbara Hannon, a builder from Dallas, and Gail Lindsay, an architect, from Raleigh. Just before they left, I finally had the opportunity to talk with one of them. Having heard my interest in working with Nature, Barbara invited me to a conference session held the next day. She and Gail were presenters. I told her it was unlikely I would go but possible, since she asked; that I would attend if so guided after dream time. So I wrote down the directions.
The next morning I woke up with a strong urge to go to the solar energy session; something seemed important about it, even urgent. Because of a previous appointment in Waynesville, it was nearly 10:30 pm before I headed for the conference at the Grove Park Inn. Normally the drive is a good 35 minutes away, so I began asking inside for the highest and best to occur; I visualized driving into a convenient parking space and finding the right room easily and on time. Without looking at my watch, I drove into the parking lot just as a very convenient spot opened up in front of me. When I got to the room, which I found remarkably easily, somehow I was 15 minutes early! This allowed me to chat (for the first time) with Gail Lindsay before the session began.
Gail and Barbara, along with two men, each gave a presentation and I noticed that among all of the charts and schemata of how to improve our environment, nowhere was connecting directly with Nature intelligences mentioned. None of what was said inspired me in the least. People in the room were getting up to leave and I sat for several eternal moments of wondering, why on Earth was I there; what were those strong inner urgings about?
What occurred for me to do was to ask Gail; "Does anyone here at the conference ever talk about asking Nature directly for ways to enhance sustainability?" For a few moments she went blank, as she asked herself the same question, and then suddenly looked back at me with bright, twinkling eyes and said; "I think that is why YOU are here!" "WHAT?" I said, "Everyone's leaving, what are you talking about?" She said; "Most of these people are interested in talking more. It's the end of the conference and they all are going outside to find a patch of lawn to sit in a circle. Come out there and tell them about Perelandra and the importance of talking directly with Nature!"
I could feel the surge of energy in my solar plexus area as we began walking outside. It seemed to dance between excitement and terror. Gail didn't help much by telling me how intimidated she felt to talk about these things, even though she was a noted speaker within the field of solar energy. "These people are biophysicists, scientists, researchers and developers; what are they going to think about connecting with Devas and asking directly how to accomplish good results?" I stopped and looked at her smiling eyes. I knew she was right. I was there to tell these people about Perelandra and working with the unseen.
As we sat in the grassy circle, my heart and thoughts raced.Gail, speaker par excellence, commanded everyone's attention and then introduced me in a most formal way: "We have here today Dr. Lee whose here to talk with us ...." If I hadn't been so nervous I would have laughed. "Doctor Lee", I thought. "If there was a place to use that old title, this was it." I gained confidence by reminding myself; "This isn't about "me", my ego, my personality. This is Spirit's work. Obviously Spirit has done a lot to conspire this to happen." And so when she was done, I cleared my throat and launched in.
³I appreciate having the opportunity to talk today. You¹ve listened to different speakers all week and the last thing you expected was to hear from me, so I will be a brief as possible. What I am about to tell you is likely very different from what you¹ve learned or heard before. In fact it¹s so different, I must share that I feel great trepidation in telling you what I have to say. I am going forth in telling you, however, because I feel what I have to say could greatly enhance your efforts at healing the Earth. And I am telling you because I know that you all are very sincere in making a possitive difference on the planet.
"What I have to say may seem unbelievable to some of you. I tell you, however, that this may be an important turning point in your efforts and this new information holds great promise. I will start by offering a simple definition for "sustainable". "Sustainable" is simply that which is in harmony and cooperation with Nature. Now, if we can assume there's some intelligence in Nature, how do suppose you get in cooperation with it? Well, it is the same as you get in cooperation with any other intelligence, you communicate directly. Find out what it thinks and desires. We simply must ask nature what is most appropriate where so we can clean up our environment and live in sustainable harmony."
Among other things, I told them that as a species, humanity is destined to connect in equal partnership with nature to evolve and help the evolution of the planet, and that the time to do it is now or we may perish. With ease and increasing confidence, I told them that I believed as we do this partnership, we are able to clean whole areas of land with very little effort or time. Then I backed off and emphasized that the truth and power of cooperating with Nature has been documented for over 20 years at the Perelandra Institute in Virginia and that Dr. Schatz, a noted medical researcher, hails Ms. Wrights "co-creative science" as "the biggest advancement in science this century, more advanced than quantum physics!"
Somewhere in the middle of it all, I realized I desired participation from the group and so I asked questions; "How many people have heard of Findhorn?, of Perelandra?", and; "How many have actually communicated with the Devas? While a few hands went up on the first question, and a few less on the second, only two went up on the third. I made a few more statements and then stopped and waited. I had no idea of how they were taking all of what I had said, nor what would happen next.
After some silence, one person spoke up in agreement and everyone listened, and then another spoke. There seemed to be a swirl of silence and intimacy around us as each person spoke. To my amazement, almost everyone agreed as to the importance and apparent promise of connecting with Nature! Some asked questions and mostly I gave short answers and referred to Ms.Wright's books for the rest. Before it was over, one person advocated the idea of opening their conferences to other disciplines so as to "cross pollinate" and get new visions of possibility such as they experienced that day. Another said they would like to have gatherings in circles, and do group energy cleansings and meditations at their next conference.
The next year's (1997) Solar Energy Forum was held in Washington DC, where it is every four years, and over 1500 people from 50 countries were there with speakers that included vice President Al Gore, Secretary of Energy, Federico Pena among dozens of other notables. It was the largest gathering ever for solar energy in the United States. Sponsoring organizations included the American Institute of Architects, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The American Solar Energy Society, Interstate Renewable Energy Council, solar Energy Industries Association, Utility PhotoVoltaic Group and the U.S. Department of Energy. Among the many two-hour sessions was one entitled: "Spirit and Sustainability". And among all of the notable speakers was none other than; "Dr. Lee," this time invited and paid (well, reimbursed for expenses).
I spoke as part of a group presentation similar to what I had seen the previous year. Our panel included Gail Lindsay, Barbara Hannon, architect Don Bercobile and chair of the Union of Concerned Scientists. All emphasized, for the first time in their many years of presentation, the importance of Spirit in their lives. Most impressive to me was the presentation builder Barbara gave. I'll always see the slide image of her sitting on the ground in a meditative pose, next to her "client" similarly seated on his wooded lot, "asking the land and the trees" where the house should be built.
Equally impressive was the fact that this room, which normally would seat about 70 people comfortably, was filled to the brim. People lined the walls and they poured in from the hallway. People asked questions and offered supportive comments and before people were ready to be done, we had to end our session so the next could use the room. Immediately afterward many of the attendees grouped in conversation and another large circle was formed in the hallway. In that circle, and in many smaller circles throughout the remainder of the conference, lively conversations were held about the importance of meditating, tuning inward for guidance and "coming out of the Spiritual closet." I was amazed and delighted.
What inspired me most about the experience afterward, other than it took such a long string of people and events to occur, was the fact that everyone was in agreement about the importance of Spirit and didn't know it until one person (me) simply listened to the subtle inner urgings and told her truth. Here was a group of people from diverse backgrounds such as waste treatment facilities, energy commissions, utility companies, development firms, government agencies and university research settings and everyone reported the desire to feel more of a personal connection with the Earth, with each other and ultimately with Nature/Spirit. Before it was over, they talked about having a much larger segment of time devoted to these issues at the next year's conference.
While I was again invited to speak at their next year's annual conference (1998) held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I didn't attend. I heard from Gail, however, that the "Spirit and Sustainably" session is here to stay in every conference and that it was held near the conference site at a ranch that had been "permaculturalized". I also found out that many more presentations on the importance of connecting with Nature have been given at many other conferences and lectures around the country. While I have yet to hear them speak much about directly consulting with Nature, other than from Barbara Hannon, I feel that a large ball is rolling and gaining momentum in the right direction.
If Spirit conspires to have me present again, I gladly will. I share this story to encourage everyone to honor their inner "spiritual" guidance, and to tell and live their truth. I believe there is far more agreement to these "metaphysical" ideas than previously assumed, and actually I have been told this by world travelers. And rather than go on some vigilante rescue mission regarding any one of our guided endeavors, I think it's important that we continue to ask, and we remain open and free to serve our highest.
