Rebirthing: A Brief Introduction

Modalities: Breathwork, Rebirthing

History

Rebirthing is ancient. In a book entitled Rebirthing According to Spirit, the channeled entity Mother Mary relates how rebirthing "was practiced by the Essenes ... many thousands of years ago, even before Master Jesus came onto this planet." Another of the channeled entities, Cochise, adds, "There is one who is known as Thoth, who is the vibration of the Atlantean, who is one of the master spirits that brought the whole process of rebirthing into knowingness, or into material form." Since the fall of Atlantis 13,000 years ago, this technique has been largely forgotten until rediscovered by Leonard Orr in the 1970s.

What is Rebirthing?

It is a sacred science using a connected breathing rhythm, relaxation, and positive contexts to expand your awareness. You learn to breathe prana (life force energy) as well as air, resulting in increased energy flow in your body, which brings up suppressed feelings/sensations. When you learn to open up your breath and relax in the presence of these feelings, you align yourself with your natural healing abilities. There is a freeing of the breath session by session. Most people can have a thorough experience of what it means to breathe prana as well as air in their first guided rebirthing session. A permanent transformation usually takes place sometime between the third and tenth session.

Healing comes about as a direct result of breathing prana and of psycho-physically reliving the moment of the first breath. In this crucible the breathing mechanism goes from exhale-oriented to inhale-oriented. In exhale-oriented breathing you slowly push the exhale out, and after a long pause, inhale a small amount of air - almost as an afterthought. It is an act literally of holding your breath, but it is the only way to keep your incompletions from the past suppressed.

In addition, exhale-oriented breathing fills the cells with an excess of carbon dioxide. Inhale-oriented breathing emphasizes pulling on the inhale and relaxing on the exhale, and keeping them the same length. Your breathing becomes efficient as you use all your energy for the inhale. Additionally, you are filling cells with oxygen, which they greatly prefer to carbon dioxide. Breathing efficiently you are dispersing prana, flushing the circulatory, nervous, and respiratory systems, as well as the aura or energy body. Proper breathing cleanses psychic dirt, negative mental mass, physical tension, physical illness, and emotional problems from human consciousness.

Advantages of Rebirthing

  • Your breath is readily accessible to you.
  • It only takes about ten breathing sessions with a conscious breathing teacher to be able to take yourself through a breathing cycle any time you want. You don't have to be dependent on anyone else.
  • When you have the ability to breathe prana, it becomes easy to release any physical symptoms or negative thoughts.
  • It is safe. Breathing and relaxing can't hurt you.
  • It is a kinesthetic process (which means the focus is on integrating into your sense of well being all sensations/feelings in your body). Kinesthetic processing is faster and more direct. A single feeling can be worth thousands of words and concepts, that would take hours to talk about. You can rationalize many situations in your mind and your mind can keep you in denial for years. Your body doesn't lie. Feelings are much harder to deny, and feelings let you know the results of your unconscious and conscious thoughts immediately.

Why Do Ten Sessions With A Rebirther

The majority of people take ten sessions to feel safe, trust the process, and develop their skills of breathing, relaxing, focusing, and finding positive contexts. A professional rebirther has experienced the energy sensations that come up during a breathing session and has knowledge of how to adjust the breath and how to create a setting of total safety with regard to those energy sensations. A good rebirther is only a breathing guide who allows and trusts your own life energy to do the session. In truth, you control the session. Rebirthers create an environment of safety for you to experience your own divine energy and bliss. A good rebirther will also give you tools to help you unravel your own birth/death cycle. Some rebirthers can telepathically pick up what the energy is doing in your body and channel energy to make your session more powerful. However, the main goal of the rebirther is to teach you how to rebirth yourself.

Therefore, it is very important to choose a professional rebirther that you feel comfortable with, and have confidence in their teaching skills. Please be aware that the name "rebirthing" is not trademarked, and there are individuals out there who call themselves rebirthers teaching people to scream, cry and pound pillows. Rebirthing is about BREATHING and BEING with all your feelings, not acting them out. It is learning to breathe prana and to be aware of the energy in your body, as well as unraveling the birth/death cycle.
