What are Hopi Ear Candles?

Hopi Ear Candles are usually 100% natural and are made from organically grown flax, extracts of honey, beeswax and herbs, such as sage, camomile and St John's Wort. They are shaped to form a hollow tube approximately 10 inches long with a filter 3 inches from one end.

The patient needs to be lying comfortably on their tummy or side. The hopi candle is lit, and placed gently over the entrance to the autidory canal.

A brief history of Hopi Ear Candles

Hopi Ear Candles were originally used by ancient Greeks and Native Indians for spiritual rituals and cleansing purposes. More recently the physical healing effects of the candles was understood.

The name 'Hopi' comes from the Hopi Indian Tribe of North America, where the knowledge and practice of the ear candle treatment reached the western world.

How do Hopi Ear Candles work?

As the Hopi Ear Candle burns a gentle warmth is experienced around the ear. This warmth stimulates the blood and lymphatic circulation which is soothing and calming.

What are Hopi Ear Candles used for?

Hopi Ear Candle treatment is non-invasive and gently effective for:
Irritation in the ears, Compacted or excessive ear wax, Headaches or migraines, Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Glue Ear, Noises in the ear (tinnitus), Circulatory disturbances in the ear, Colds and flu, Relaxation and stress relief.

Side effects of Hopi Ear Candles

There are generally no adverse side effects with this treatment.

A typical Hopi Ear Candles treatment

The Hopi Candle is held in position just inside the ear. Gradually any impurities are drawn to the surface, many of which are carried away through the candle, although some can be found in the residue after the candle has been removed from the ear. Some patients experience a 'clearing' up to 24 hours later.

Both ears are treated to maintain balance.

The treatment is sometimes completed with a soothing facial massage which helps to increase circulation, clear the siunuses and maintain relaxation.

Ideally the treatment should be repeated initially at a 3-7 day interval following the first session. Treatments can then continue every 4-6 weeks for preventative and revitalising purposes.

It is not recommended that you try to treat yourself or ask a friend to help you as this could permanently damage your inner ear. Please contact a qualified practitioner who will be able to assess your condition and advise you of the required number of treatments.
